The NBA Finals have brought an unusual and humorous initiative to New York. The city's mayor, Zoran Mamdani, has symbolically signed an executive order that "repeals" the bedtime for children during the finals, to allow young fans to follow their favorite team until the end.

The decision comes at a time when the timing of major sports games continues to be a subject of debate, as television networks schedule them during peak viewing times. This year's NBA Finals will also start at 20:30 p.m. Eastern Time, making it difficult for many children and teens to watch the games to completion.

Surrounded by students in his office, Mamdani signed the humorous document, which states that “bedtime should not prevent young New Yorkers from rooting for the Knicks and watching every second of this historic finals series.” The document is designed in satirical tones and is even written in Comic Sans font.

"As mayor, you have to make a lot of difficult decisions. This wasn't one of them," he joked.

However, the order does not include any relief for schools. Students attending the final series between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs will still be required to attend class as normal. New York City public schools will remain open through June 26, despite the games scheduled for June 3-19.

Meanwhile, in San Antonio, the situation is simpler for young Spurs fans, as summer vacation has started at the end of May.
