The constitutive session of the Kosovo Assembly has been interrupted after the deputies of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) left the plenary hall. The reason for this decision was the fact that the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV) did not support the candidacy of Vlora Çitaku for the position of Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.
During the voting process, MP Ardian Gola was elected Deputy Speaker of the Assembly from the ranks of LVV. After that, the Speaker of the Assembly, Albulena Haxhiu, asked the PDK to submit a new proposal for Deputy Speaker.
At that moment, except for MP Mërgim Lushtaku, all other PDK MPs left the plenary hall.
After leaving the hall, the chairman of the PDK, Bedri Hamza, declared to the media that his political entity will no longer continue participating in this session and will address the highest constitutional body.
"As of today, PDK has no reason to participate in the plenary session and we will send the case to the Constitutional Court. We are sure that the constitutional deadlines have ended on August 7. Today they are not respecting the Constitutional Court's ruling on the voting method, as it says there must be consensus. There is no consensus. We voted for the LVV candidate, but they did not support our candidate," declared Hamza.
The session of the Kosovo Assembly is expected to continue at 14:00 PM.
