Former prosecutor Eugen Beci, invited to the show This Week in News24 commented on the issue of magistrates' salaries.

Beci emphasizes that the decision of the Constitutional Court in February 2026 is indisputable. According to him, the majority was hypocritical and that it only remembered about salaries when it was under pressure, after the reaction of the Judges' Associations.

Further, Beci underlined that the government, in this specific case, has committed criminal offenses of non-implementation of the court's decision.

Eugen Beci, former prosecutor: The Constitutional Court in February 2026 decided that the judge's salary cannot be reduced, repealed the government's 2023 decision and said that by July 31, 2026, the Assembly must issue legal acts that are in line with the decision. The government did not add water to the fire. The Constitutional Court was clear that the payment should have been made. The majority played, committed hypocrisy. The government only remembered when it saw such a huge reaction from judges and prosecutors.

The Ministry of Finance said that I am referring to the 2023 law, but this is wrong, because it is a law that is no longer in force. The meeting of judges told the Albanians that there are no negotiations with the decisions of the Constitutional Court. Therefore, criminal charges were filed against the Minister of Finance Petrit Malaj.

Rama makes populist statements that he plays on the sensitivities of people who have low salaries, because he says that look at the judges having good salaries. He incites conflict, public distrust in the judiciary and conflict between the powers. He did not give the decision to increase salaries, but there is a court decision. He also played with the fact that he stated that the doors of the state budget are opened by the government and not the court, which is a mistake. The majority is not the master of the country. Edi Rama tries to turn it into a banal story, but it is the story of the implementation of the Constitutional Court. The government committed criminal acts of non-execution of court decisions.

The statement of the Minister of Finance Petrit Malaj is not an issue to be discussed in public. Malaj should take legal measures so that the law is enforceable in July. Malaj should understand that the 2023 law does not exist. He should implement the decision of the Constitutional Court.
