Switzerland in trouble ahead of the World Cup. Striker Breel Embolo was forced to stay home after a last-minute decision by US authorities to review his travel permit, preventing him from traveling to America with the rest of the squad.

The Helvetic Federation announced that the team was informed of such a thing only a few hours before.

"Unfortunately, Breel Embolo is currently unable to travel to the United States with the team," the federation wrote in a statement widely reported by the media.

The striker, who plays for French club Stade Rennais, has had previous run-ins with the law. A Swiss court found him guilty in 2023 of threatening a person, for an incident that occurred when he was 21.
