Activist and member of the British Chamber, Silvana Xhaferri Hoxha, has stated that protests and political developments in the country are bringing division within the Socialist Party, while calling for profound changes to the Constitution and electoral law.

Invited to News24, Hoxha said that the protesters have taken a concrete step to ensure that those who have been involved in the protest do not become part of a 12-month interim government. “We have also taken a step so that none of us who are involved in the protest will be part of the 12-month government that will be in place,” she declared.

According to Hoxha, the Socialist Party is facing internal weaknesses, which, according to her, have not yet fully manifested themselves. “I am convinced that the SP is falling apart. But we have not seen the weak points,” the activist said. She also commented on the situation within parliament, claiming that not all deputies have the same political beliefs or a clear idea of what they represent.

"Members of parliament have gathered, who do not necessarily have left-wing political beliefs. Some of them do not know what they represent and, when they see that lifeboat, they will be able to escape from there to save themselves," Hoxha said.

According to her, a similar situation may be emerging within other political forces. “The same thing is happening with the other political force,” she declared. Hoxha said that political change should not be limited to the rotation of government, but should include a comprehensive review of the way the state functions. “We want the country’s Constitution to be rewritten from scratch. We have a lot of technical skills, we have good elements from the Diaspora. If Albania wants to rewrite the Constitution and the electoral law, let as many other parties as they want be created,” the activist said.
