The protests held in Tirana and in various cities around the world where Albanians live and work have also attracted attention in the European Parliament.

During a discussion held in Brussels, Dutch MEP Anna Strolenberg focused on the situation in Albania, commenting on the reasons that, according to her, have pushed thousands of citizens to take to the streets to protest.

She stated that the protesters' demands are clear and related to the need for transparency and improved living conditions.

"Albanians have taken to the streets and their demands are clear. Of course they want economic development, but not at any cost. As long as basic needs are not met, such as water, healthcare and a dignified salary, they have the right to ask whether public resources are going to citizens or to a privileged group," declared Strolenberg.

The MEP also announced that at the end of June she will visit Albania to get to know the situation up close and listen to the concerns of citizens.

"At the end of June, I will travel to Albania to listen and find ideas that we can take with us, in order to help," she said.

Her statements come at a time when protests in Albania and mobilizations of the Albanian diaspora abroad have continued to attract the attention of public opinion and international institutions.
