The President of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has reacted to the protests of residents of the Marina Oilfield area regarding the non-respect of land lease contracts by Bankers Petroleum.

He said Bankers should compensate the residents for any damages and liabilities.

"I think the residents are absolutely right and Bankers should compensate for all the consequences created by the technological methods used to extract oil in that area."
Secondly, I do not want to spread panic among the residents, but some studies show that there is a significant increase in cancer patients there. And they are defenseless people, without a state, that any country in the world, the study would be officialized and anyone would be held responsible for the increase, as they say, these are studies, but no one can refute them without a serious study. Therefore, the residents of that area, which is the largest oil field in Europe on earth, deserve full compensation. They legally deserve a very serious health check and support against the consequences that may have been created in that area by gases and other problems," he said.
