Former Socialist Party MP Petro Koçi has commented on the case of Belinda Balluku and the position taken by the majority regarding SPAK's request to lift her immunity. Invited to the show "Minuta e Parë" on News24 with Ola Bruko, Koçi said that the relationship between politics and justice should be clearly defined and that decision-making should not depend on the person in question.
"The relationship between politics and justice must be established. A standard must be established that should not be interpreted according to names. When justice requires you to lift someone's immunity, you must do it," Koçi said. He said he had previously held critical positions about Balluk, but stressed that these positions are not related to any personal issues.
"I have expressed my views on Mrs. Balluku, because it seems like I have it personal. Some say: 'They removed Koçi from Fier', but I was in Tirana," he declared. Koçi also spoke about his departure from political representation in Fier, explaining that the way the electoral scheme was constructed had made such a confrontation impossible.
"My fight is not private. That's why I did not accept such a challenge, because it would be like banging my head against a wall," said the former socialist MP. Returning to the Balluku case, Koçi said that some of the steps taken by Prime Minister Edi Rama towards her were, in his opinion, wrong.
"The steps Rama took against her were wrong. I do not have the authority to suspend her. The political standard is also to blame here," Koçi said. He added that, given the time that has passed, the justice authorities have already had the opportunity to secure the necessary evidence. In this context, Koçi also mentioned the case of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, arguing that the longer a security measure lasts, the more important the issue of evidence becomes if the person is reinstated.
