Socialist Party MP, Erion Braçe, invited to the show "Minuta e perë" on News24 in front of journalist Ola Bruko, commented on the heated debate over the denunciations of former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj. Braçe publicly admitted that Prime Minister Edi Rama and Arben Ahmetaj were close, while underlining that any allegations about the KAYO company or arms trafficking should be investigated by law enforcement agencies if facts are available.
Asked about Ahmetaj's statement that he loved Edi Rama "like a brother" and his request for forgiveness towards Albanians, Braçe chose to ironize the terminology, but acknowledged their close relationship: "I didn't know they were like brothers. I knew that Rama and Ahmetaj were close, but that's it."
Regarding the serious accusations of using the state-owned enterprise KAYO as a front for arms trafficking from Africa, Braçe stated that the matter requires verification by institutions: “Everyone has the right to report when they become aware of facts that testify to a crime, even arms trafficking. Reporting is the key element. Whoever has these facts… law enforcement bodies, if they see that there are facts, can start an investigation.”
The socialist MP defended the 2024 legal framework for the creation of KAYO, emphasizing that the enterprise was established by public law in the function of national interests and that any agreement must be passed by the Minister of Defense and the Council of Ministers. Asked about the weapons allegedly coming from Africa and being repackaged in Albania, Braçe tried to soften the terminology:
"If weapons come from Africa and are sold from here, it is not arms trafficking in my concept. Arms trafficking is related to countries in conflict where sales have been prohibited by UN resolutions. However, the post-legislative process must be verified without question by parliamentary committees and the Supreme Audit Office."
