Edi Rama did not hand over Belinda Balluku and rejected SPAK's request to lift her immunity with the votes of his parliamentary majority. Following today's decision by the Assembly, the German Embassy in Tirana has reacted.

The German Embassy emphasizes that the prosecution of high-level corruption must be implemented quickly and without obstacles, remembering that these are conditions for the EU membership process.

"A necessary condition for making progress in this merit-based process is the effective prosecution of corruption, even in high-profile cases. Our clear expectation is that even in these cases, criminal prosecution through justice can be carried out quickly and without obstacles. Albanian politics continues to be required to guarantee this process," the statement says.

Regarding today's decision of the Albanian Parliament regarding the lifting of immunity, the German Embassy states:
Germany supports the process of Albania's integration into the European Union in accordance with the wishes of the Albanians.
A prerequisite for making progress in this merit-based process is the effective prosecution of corruption, even in high-profile cases. Our clear expectation is that even in these cases, prosecution through justice can be carried out quickly and without obstacles. Albanian politics is still being asked to guarantee this process.
