On February 24, Judge Nertina Kosova will review the request of the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, for a change in the security measure.

The Special Appeal will assess whether the legal conditions and criteria for Veliaj to be released from prison are met.

His request comes after the decision to move the case to trial. According to the defense, at this procedural stage there is no longer a risk of evidence being destroyed or manipulated, which is one of the main arguments for easing the security measure.

The Appeals Court's decision is expected to determine whether the mayor will continue to stay in the current measure or will seek a change.
