The administration of US President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of further easing oil sanctions against Russia.

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said yesterday that the White House has no intention of abandoning its sanctions policy against Russia, despite the temporary easing of India's ban on buying Russian oil.

The US official noted that this was only a pragmatic measure that would be short-term. Wright stressed that the measure was intended to “quell fears of oil shortages” and reduce “market anxiety.”
