A loud explosion was heard and smoke was seen in an area near the United States Embassy in Oslo, Norway, in the early hours of Sunday morning. According to local media, police were notified at around 01:00 a.m. and numerous security forces immediately arrived at the scene. Norwegian authorities confirmed that they are in contact with US embassy staff.

Police later said the explosion occurred at the entrance to the consular section of the embassy and caused only minor material damage. The cause of the explosion remains unknown, while authorities said no one was injured. The investigation into the incident is ongoing and police have not released any further details at this time.

A 16-year-old resident of the area told TV2 that he was watching TV when he heard the explosion. "At first we thought the noise was coming from our house, so we looked around. Then we saw through the window the arrival of many police officers," he said.

According to him, police dogs, drones, armed officers and helicopters were seen patrolling the area. Meanwhile, US embassies in the Middle East have been put on high alert due to tensions and military operations by the US and Israel against Iran, as well as threats of retaliation from Tehran. However, Norwegian police have so far reported no indication that the explosion near the US Embassy in Oslo is related to developments in the Middle East.
