The plague of ruminants has returned to the Shkodra region after nearly a year, affecting the Dajç unit. The Ministry of Agriculture has therefore issued an order to quarantine this area within a radius of 3-10 kilometers.

The first case of the plague this year has been confirmed in the village of Mali i Gjymtit in Dajçi. Around 20 sheep belonging to farmer Sokol Volaj have been buried, while the destruction of around 60 other sheep owned by this farmer is now expected. The case has been officially confirmed for 3 days.

The damage caused to farmer Volaj is considerable, amounting to around 10-15 million old lek, and he hopes to be compensated.

Meanwhile, Dajçi administrator Broz Pjetrani says that there are suspicions that there may be other cases of plague in small livestock in that unit and that relevant inspections and analyses will be carried out.

In addition to Dajçi, the regional directorate of agricultural extension in Shkodra has also launched controls in other areas due to the risk of the spread of plague. This is a disease that affects animals but is not transmitted to humans.

Last year, 3 such cases were found in Shkodra, leading to the destruction of the small ones, while the affected areas were placed in quarantine within the legally established deadlines.
