A hard-fought victory for Andrey Rublev, while the surprise came with the elimination of Czech Jiri Lehecka by Pablo Carreno Busta.
The evening also brought the emotional farewell of Stan Wawrinka, the 2015 champion, who was eliminated in the first round and thus ended his adventure in Paris.
