After his first request to leave prison was rejected, former mayor Safet Gjici has submitted, through his lawyer, a second request to the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction of Elbasan.

According to official sources, Safet Gjici is requesting conditional release to serve the remainder of his prison sentence at home. The former mayor of Kukes, Safet Gjici, was arrested on June 24, 2023, after the publication of a video scandal showing intimate relations in his office with Alma Kaçi.

Initially, Gjici was accused of "passive corruption of high-ranking state officials or local elected officials", while Alma Kaçi was accused of "active corruption". However, during the trial, the Court changed the charge against Gjici to "abuse of office", sentencing him to 2 years in prison and disqualifying him from holding public office for 5 years.

Meanwhile, Alma Kaçi was sentenced to 1 year in prison for “prostitution.” According to investigations by the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK), Alma Kaçi had offered irregular benefits to Gjici in the form of sexual favors.
