The double fire that has been raging since midday on Sunday in Salamis is taking a dramatic turn, as two bodies were found during firefighting operations. On a day that has been characterized as very high risk (Category 4), very strong winds are making the work of firefighting forces extremely difficult, fueling the flames on two active fronts.

The two bodies appear to belong to an elderly couple who were trapped and were found in the Peristeri area on Andromachis Street. The tragic incident occurred very close to the point where the fire initially broke out.

Meanwhile, so far, there have been eight victims of burns. Two of them were transferred to the "Thriasio" hospital.

The decisive role in the fatal development of the fire seems to have been played by the terrible speed with which the fire front expanded. According to official data, the Fire Operations Center was informed about the start of the fire at 14:43. Driven by the stormy winds that swept the area, the fire reached uncontrollable proportions in just 4 minutes.

The Operations Center has issued a general alert, as firefighters are being asked to manage two fronts that are in progress. The front in Peristeri is the most serious and dangerous outbreak. The fire has burned a forest area, however, the situation has deteriorated dramatically, as the flames have spread to houses in the settlement.
In parallel with the front in Peristeri, Firefighters are fighting to control a second active fire front in the Salamina area.

Investigations have begun into the causes that caused the simultaneous outbreak of fires. For this purpose, the Piraeus Arson Crime Investigation Team has been mobilized.
