A 35-year-old Washington teacher has been arrested after authorities accused her of having sex with two teenage boys she had adopted. Amber Swain, who served as a teacher and principal at Pent Ore Middle School, was arrested Tuesday following an investigation that began on May 18. According to authorities, the Washington state Department of Children, Youth and Families notified the sheriff's office of a suspected case of sexual abuse involving two teenagers.
After interviewing the youths and the suspect, investigators said they had found enough evidence to arrest her. One of the boys told investigators that he had had sex with Swain several times, claiming that the contact had begun before he turned 18 and continued after that. According to his testimony, one of the episodes had occurred just two days before the case was reported to police. Initially, the 35-year-old denied the allegations, but later admitted that she had had sex with one of the youths in February, after he had reached the age of majority. However, she later stated that she may have been mistaken about the dates of the events.
Meanwhile, the second son told officers that he had physical contact with the teacher in May while they were in the same bed, but claimed that she stopped the situation after a few minutes. Swain appeared in court, which set a $20 bond for her release. The court also imposed strict conditions, prohibiting contact with anyone under the age of 18, requiring her to stay within Washington state and regularly report to her legal counsel. Under Washington state law, first-degree incest is considered a serious crime and is punishable by up to 10 years in prison, as well as a fine of up to $20.
