The General Council of the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV), which met on Saturday, has once again nominated Albin Kurti as the candidate for prime minister. The incumbent prime minister is seeking a new mandate after LVV's victory in two elections in 2025, in February and in the extraordinary elections in December.

In the end, his party received over 51% of the votes and Kurti again emerged as the most voted. During his speech, Kurti said that the increase in support for Vetëvendosje is continuous, while adding that they aim to receive 60% of the votes.

"From February to December last year, we grew by 9%, if we grow by the same amount from December to June, we can reach 60%. If we work as hard as we know how, with sincerity and dedication, this is undoubtedly possible," he said.

He accused the opposition of blocking institutional processes, saying that its actions have not defeated the people, but have aimed to obstruct the state. According to Kurti, new elections were not necessary, but he added that they may be necessary for some political factors, but not for the people.

"Every time they block us, we grow. They are getting a stronger response from the people. We didn't need these elections. Maybe someone, some strategist who is directing opposition actions from the shadows, is thinking that elections are necessary."

"Maybe they are for someone, but not for the people and the state. This is happening because we have an opposition that has realized that it cannot defeat the people, but has chosen to block the state. The will of the people is not constitutional, it is a force of history that leads us forward," he declared.

We recall that the CEC has announced that 22 political entities and three coalitions have registered to participate in the June 7 elections, while nine entities have withdrawn from competing alone or in coalition.
