An absurd scene took place today near the Serbian parliament building, when a group of deputies from “Srbija Centar” (SRCE) attempted to pass through the camp, called “chacilend”, to continue to their workplace. The police stopped them and did not allow them to pass until they identified themselves.
At one point, Zdravko Ponosh (one of the deputies) asked the police officers about the legal basis for requesting their identification, and the police officer replied, “What is the legal basis for him telling me I’m a monkey?”
The deputies said they are legal representatives of the people, but the police insisted that they show their documents, nova.rs reports.
A verbal and physical altercation immediately ensued, as the police officers claimed they did not know that the people in front of them were MPs. The police officer told them to go through the side entrance on Kosovska Street.
At one point, MP Stefan Janjic addressed the policeman with offensive words, telling him "you're a monkey."
The policeman replied, "You'll see who the monkey is when you take off your uniform!"
Then, Ponosh calmly asked, "On what legal basis do you require us to identify ourselves?" - and the policeman responded seriously, speaking about the monkey.
This moment, and the policeman's reaction, were filmed by camera and have caused waves of reactions on social media.
