An unknown driver of a vehicle with Zagreb license plates, traveling from the direction of Rijeka towards Senj, lost control of the vehicle while entering a curve for reasons still unclear.
The vehicle veered to the right, hit two stone guardrails and continued off the road, then fell into a 70-meter-deep abyss, ending up in the sea, index.hr reports.
As a result of this tragic accident, four people – two men and two women – lost their lives. The bodies of the victims were recovered from the sea by members of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS), Station in Gospić, and transported to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Rijeka for autopsy and identification.
Police, ambulance and forensic teams responded to the scene, and the rescue operation ended in the evening. Police confirmed that forensic investigations will continue to uncover the full circumstances of the accident and identify the victims.
