Universidad de Chile coach and former Argentine international Fernando Gago has been rushed to hospital after suffering a heart attack shortly after a press conference following his team's victory over O'Higgins. The 40-year-old reportedly began to feel uneasy and felt severe chest pains during the press conference. Despite trying to continue by drinking water and calming himself down, his symptoms worsened.
Immediately after the conference, the club's medical staff and his associates intervened by urgently transporting him to the hospital, where he underwent cardiological examinations. The doctors decided to perform a surgical intervention, which was successfully carried out to treat the cardiac problem.
In an official statement, Universidad de Chile announced that Fernando Gago is in stable condition and is being monitored by the medical team. The club also announced that the coach will not participate in training sessions until the necessary tests and recovery process are completed.
"Our technical director is undergoing a series of cardiological tests and will not participate in today's training. His condition is good and remains under medical supervision," the club's official response states.
