Spanish police announced today that they have dismantled the first known cell in the country linked to the group "The Base", a fascist organization classified as terrorist by the EU.
Three people were arrested and another, considered the leader of the group, was taken into custody in the province of Castellón, in eastern Spain, north of Valencia.
During the operation, police discovered an arsenal of weapons that included two firearms, seven training guns, ammunition, over 20 knives, tactical equipment and neo-Nazi materials.
The arrests come at a time when far-right sentiment is growing in the country and polls show growing support among young people for nationalist organizations, while Spain has reopened the debate over its authoritarian past.
