After the Constitutional Court rejected yesterday evening Prime Minister Edi Rama's request to suspend Belinda Balluku from her duties as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, the "ball" now passes to the Albanian Parliament, where the battle will take place in the Council of Mandates and Immunities.

Journalist Ergys Gjençaj reports that the meeting is expected to be held next week where the request submitted on December 16 by the Special Prosecution Office for authorization to arrest Balluk will be reviewed.

So far, the Mandates Council has held only one meeting, 3 days after the submission of the request by SPAK, on December 19, where after 5 hours of meeting, no decision was made, only the next meeting was postponed.

The 2nd attempt, by order of Pelesh, was called on January 28, but at the request of the socialists, it was postponed as the socialists claimed that a decision from the Constitutional Court was needed so that a decision could be made on Balluk's immunity.

Balluku and her lawyer will also be invited to attend the next meeting, but Balluku may choose not to attend in person.

After the Council meeting, 2 weeks are available for the Council to present the report that will be voted on regarding whether or not to lift Balluk's immunity.

It remains to be seen whether the "Balluku" case will be similar to the "Xhaçka" case, where the Assembly was supposed to take its mandate to the Criminal Court, but in the parliamentary session the socialist majority abstained.
