Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke at the meeting of the SP Group for Belinda Balluku, where he reiterated that the Deputy Prime Minister has submitted her resignation 3 times, but that it was rejected by him.
He emphasized that she was not charged with corruption but with violating equality in tenders, while adding that in order to give an opinion regarding her immunity, she will first have to face the two reports issued by the Mandates Council.
"I will not deal with the process that has started in Parliament, as I am waiting for the report of the Mandates Council before I address the topic of immunity. I want to share something with you that I have said: Belinda Balluku has submitted her resignation to me 3 times. Since the evening of the day when she was charged, not for corruption. It is interesting that it happens that 'the pots do the calculations' for those acts - the charge is not for corruption, there is none! But it is for inequality in tenders. Then she submitted her resignation again in writing when the suspension was made, and then a third time when the Constitutional Court's decision was not made. I categorically rejected the idea of resigning.
Why is it worth repeating and why do I want to share it publicly? Because I am convinced that in this revolutionary phase of the country's institutional life, when we are changing from countries with justice and consolidated institutions, we cannot be guided by automatic resignations.
I also know the party theory of moral resignation, which is not practiced in Europe in the same way. Today in Albania, especially through SPAK, an undeniable service has begun to be done, but damage is also being done to the administration, violating the principle of innocence. It is easy to say that in Germany an accused minister resigns, but this does not always happen in Italy or France," he said.
