The recent sale of Angelina Jolie's New York apartment has sparked speculation about her financial situation. The 50-year-old Hollywood star sold the only property she has owned since 1997 last summer for an undisclosed sum. According to documents obtained by the Daily Mail, Jolie handed over her apartment on Manhattan's Upper West Side on July 18, 2025, and the sale was officially registered on August 4. The property is located in the historic The Ansonia building on Broadway. Although the contract does not mention the price, real estate sites value the apartment at around $1.8 million. Jolie had bought it for $490 in December 1997.
The actress was listed as the seller, and the company Ansoniasix, LLC as the buyer. In 2022, the apartment had undergone an interior renovation worth over $35. In an interview in March 2025, Jolie revealed that one of her sons, Maddox, 24, lived there, using it mostly as storage space.
Waiting to sell the Los Angeles mansion
Meanwhile, Jolie is reportedly preparing to sell her Los Angeles mansion for $24.5 million. The six-bedroom, ten-bathroom property is known as the Cecil B. DeMille mansion, named after the legendary director who lived there for four decades. According to legal documents, Brad Pitt gave Jolie an $8 million loan to purchase the home in 2017.
Jolie has previously said she wants to leave California and that she has only stayed there because of the terms of her divorce from Pitt. She has said she plans to move once her minor children turn 18 — which will happen this July with twins Knox and Vivienne — and that she intends to spend a lot of time in Cambodia.
Projects outside the US and financial speculation
In August of last year, sources close to the actress told People that she was working on projects abroad, including in Cambodia, France and Africa. Jolie has owned a traditional Cambodian home for years and has bought thousands of acres of land to create a wildlife sanctuary. However, sources for the Daily Mail suggest that leaving Los Angeles would mean physical separation from some of her children, who are already settled in their lives. Knox is seriously involved in Muay Thai, Shiloh works as a choreographer in Los Angeles, while Zahara is expected to graduate this year from Spellman College in Atlanta.
Columnist Rob Shuter has claimed that Jolie is struggling to maintain her lavish lifestyle, largely due to her long-running legal battle with Brad Pitt over the Château Miraval vineyard in France. According to sources, the legal costs have been “astronomical.” The couple’s divorce was finalized in December 2024, but disputes over ownership of Miraval continue. Pitt sued Jolie in 2022 after she sold her stake to Russian oligarch Yuri Sheffler without his consent, a case that is still pending in court.
