It is a handmade, custom-made wristwatch, commissioned by Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy.

The watch contains a personal engraved message, signed by members of the cabinet, as a token of appreciation for his time at the helm of government. The gift also has a special symbolism, as it was manufactured by the historic British watch company Dent London, the same company that made the famous clock mechanism in the Elizabeth Tower in Westminster, where Big Ben is located.

The watch was presented to Starmer just hours before his final appearance as prime minister in the House of Commons, where he was expected to face questions from MPs. The final days of his term have also been fraught with tension, following news of the suspicious death of former MP Anne Windecombe. The 78-year-old former politician was found dead in her flat with serious injuries, reigniting the debate over the safety of political figures in Britain.

Ahead of his official resignation, Starmer is trying to highlight his political legacy, including Britain's continued support for Ukraine and social policies in the country. Among the initiatives promoted during his mandate is the Hillsborough Act, which aims to strengthen institutional transparency and protect citizens from abuses of state power.
