The draft peace agreement with Hamas has caused strong political reactions in Israel, with some of the country's leading figures expressing opposition to its elements.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has described the agreement as "unacceptable to Israel," arguing that the cessation of operations against Hamas leaders would allow the organization to reorganize and prepare for new attacks.

In a reaction on Platform X, Ben-Gvir said that stopping targeted strikes on Hamas members would be a strategic mistake.

"Closing the targeted neutralizations of Hamas members means giving it the opportunity to organize the next massacre," he declared. Ben-Gvir called for the continuation of military operations in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing that Israel must achieve a "clear victory" and supporting the push for the departure of Palestinians from the area.

Former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot has also criticized the draft agreement. He stated that any agreement that does not lead to the dismantling of Hamas’s military and governance capabilities would be a “complete failure.” Eisenkot also criticized the Israeli government, raising questions about its involvement in drafting the agreement. According to him, the fact that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not publicly presented the proposal raises doubts about whether Israel had a real role in the negotiations or whether the agreement was presented to it as a fait accompli.

The reactions in Israel come after the announcement by US President Donald Trump, who declared that the "Peace Council" he created had reached a "historic agreement" for the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed organizations in the Gaza Strip.

In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump described the agreement as a “monumental step towards lasting peace and security.” According to him, the plan envisages the gradual disarmament of Hamas, the transfer of Gaza under the administration of a new Palestinian government, the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces, the deployment of an international stabilization force, and the creation of a new Palestinian police force.

Trump also thanked Egypt, Qatar and Turkey for their role in the negotiation process.

However, an Israeli official has clarified that the proposal does not meet all of the Israeli government's demands for a complete demilitarization of the Gaza Strip, leaving open the issue of implementing the agreement.
