Another US airstrike in the eastern Pacific has killed at least two people after the US military struck a ship suspected of being involved in drug trafficking. According to the US military command for Latin America and the Caribbean, SOUTHCOM, the ship was traveling in “known drug trafficking routes” in the eastern Pacific and was suspected of being part of narcotics smuggling operations.

The US command also released a 10-second black-and-white video showing the moment the vessel was hit and destroyed. According to the official statement, at least two people lost their lives, while another initially survived the bombing. The US Coast Guard was immediately notified to activate search and rescue operations, however, authorities did not provide further details on the survivor's condition.

With this operation, the number of victims from the American "anti-drug" campaign, launched since September 2025 in the eastern Pacific and the Caribbean, has reached at least 192 dead.

However, the Donald Trump administration has been criticized for not presenting concrete evidence that the ships hit were actually involved in criminal activities. The legality of these military operations in international and foreign territorial waters has often been questioned by experts and international human rights organizations. Organizations such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have accused US forces of “unlawful extrajudicial killings” during these operations.
