A hearing has begun at the Durrës Court to issue a security measure for the former director, chief finance officer and cashier of the Albanian Post branch in Durrës, who were arrested three days ago after failing to collect the sum of 69 million new lek, intended for the distribution of pensions and social assistance, from the cash register of the Shijak and Krujë branches.
Elisabeta Mataj, who was dismissed a few days ago from the position of director of the Albanian Post branch in Durrës, the head of finance Valbona Doni and the treasurer Paola Dana have been arrested by the police after a denunciation and investigations were launched for the abuse of millions of lek with the institution's funds. Their detention was carried out in function of the criminal proceedings registered by the Prosecutor's Office, for the offenses of "Abuse of office" and "Theft by abuse of office", committed in collaboration.
The investigations suspect that, during the months of April and May 2026, these citizens embezzled the amount of 69 million new lek, which was planned to be collected from the Durrës branch of the Albanian Post, for the Shijak and Krujë branches, with the aim of distributing pensions and social assistance to the citizens of these areas.
The prosecutor in the case is Gazmend Frëngu, while the judge is Xhevdet Lika.
