Democratic Party MP, Tritan Shehu, invited to the studio News24, commented on yesterday's opposition protest, emphasizing that it sent a clear message against the current government.
Shehu called on all free citizens to participate in protest movements to oppose corruption, the undermining of democracy, terror against citizens and the destruction of parliamentary institutions. He stressed that the peak of popular discontent is represented by the case of Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku and the blocking of the lifting of her immunity by Parliament.
“The protests are organized by the DP, but they have great popular support because confronting regimes is done through citizen movements,” Shehu said. He added that yesterday’s protest achieved its objectives, demonstrating the strength of the masses of people who courageously stood up against the regime and raising public awareness, both domestically and internationally.
Shehu noted that the coverage of the protest in international media was greater and of higher quality than in previous times, singling out rampant corruption as the core of the discontent. He also criticized the excessive use of police force against protesters, describing it as a feature of a state-regime that acts out of proportion and in violation of the law.
