The Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, stated that during 2025, the institution continued to strengthen monetary and financial stability, implementing the recommendations of the Parliament and advancing the process of approximating the regulatory framework with European Union standards.

Reporting to the Committee on Civic Initiatives, Cooperation and Institutional Oversight on the implementation of the Assembly's recommendations and the Bank of Albania's activity for 2025, Sejko said that monetary policy has remained oriented towards maintaining price stability, while decision-making has been based on more in-depth analyses and more complete data.

"Monetary policy during this period has been guided by data and by our primary objective: maintaining price stability. It has been a prudent, flexible, data-based policy and within our legal mandate," the Governor said.

Sejko announced that inflation averaged 2,2% during 2025, remaining close to the target of 3%, while forecasts indicate that it will continue to remain stable in the coming period.

The Governor emphasized that the Bank of Albania supports the free exchange rate regime, assessing that the strengthening of the lek has come as a result of increased income from tourism, remittances, foreign investments and the improvement of the external position of the economy.

"The Bank of Albania's interventions in the foreign exchange market have not aimed at maintaining the exchange rate at a certain level, but at mitigating rapid movements and avoiding risks to monetary and financial stability," he said.

According to Sejko, at the end of 2025, the country's foreign exchange reserves reached around 7,3 billion euros, while the banking sector maintained healthy indicators, with non-performing loans falling to 3,8%, the lowest level since 2008.

The Governor also highlighted that during 2025, progress was made in European financial integration, through Albania's membership in the SEPA area and the modernization of payment systems.

"In any case, our goal has been the same: more stability, more security and more clarity for citizens, businesses and markets. The Bank of Albania will continue to act with independence, responsibility and prudence, in the service of monetary and financial stability and Albania's European path", concluded Sejko.
