The Greek military was rocked a few days ago by a scandal, where an Air Force colonel was arrested for espionage, after it was proven that he sold sensitive NATO data to China.

The charge he faces could result in life in prison. The Greek officer had extensive experience in secret electronic systems and was also a regular NATO evaluator, thus providing the Chinese with even more sensitive Alliance data.

However, his action came to an end when the first information from the CIA arrived. The senior officer was interrogated by two EYP leaders, where he fell into a series of contradictions and finally "broke down".

How was it discovered?

According to STAR in October, the CIA sent a signal to the Hellenic Security Service that a military officer in Greece was suspected of leaking classified NATO information to China.

The EYP immediately notified the 5th Branch of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff, i.e. counterintelligence. From that moment on, an investigation began that resembles a movie script.
Finally, they reached the suspect from the evidence. According to the authorities, only the Colonel in question could have access to this information, due to his position as commander of a unit with radar and electronic systems. Thus, the investigators gained a face and automatically a reference point: Gaforren.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the Colonel was using two cell phones. One was classified and reportedly given to him by the Chinese. Officers were able to detect the coded signal being sent to China.

Experts said the most likely scenario is that he photographed confidential documents and, through special software, converted them into QR codes so that they could be sent without immediate detection. However, in the age of technology, nothing remains hidden.
