“Disagreements over Hamas disarmament hinder progress on Gaza peace plan,” writes The Guardian.
Experts say Hamas may reject the plan as there is no guarantee that Israel will withdraw after the weapons are handed over.
Progress on the Gaza peace plan has stalled due to disagreements over how Hamas should be disarmed, while Israel threatens to resume a full-scale war if conditions are not met soon.
The second phase of the US-brokered ceasefire, which Washington declared began in January, was intended to include the disarmament of Hamas, the withdrawal of Israeli forces and a Palestinian interim administration entering Gaza, supported by a Palestinian police force and an international stabilization force (ISF).
However, the 20-point plan, which is supposed to be overseen by Donald Trump's newly assembled Peace Board, is vague on the order.
