The Supreme Court rejected Ilir Meta's appeal, which means that the former president remains in detention.
He requested the removal of the security measure, arguing that the conditions and criteria for keeping him in detention cells do not exist, but the former head of state's claims were not taken into consideration by the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, the Special Court concluded the preliminary hearing for Meta, his ex-wife Monika Kryemadhi and the three other defendants and will decide next Wednesday whether or not to send the criminal case against them to trial. Meta faces charges of corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets.
