This phrase sounds somewhat strange, like impossible news, but it is actually a political diagnosis.
This is not about a Hungarian citizen who has passed away, but about a figure who has stirred up Hungarian politics today and beyond, Peter Magyar - a "former" of the system in Hungary, who decided to openly oppose it, challenging Viktor Orbán in the elections, his model of power and the mechanisms that kept him afloat.
So, "Hungarian" is more than a person, it's a trait. It's the courage to confront power.
And here there is a point of comparison. In the Socialist Party, the "Hungarian" is dead. Not because there are no people, but because there is no strength to take the decisive step, to say "enough"!
The only exception remains Edi Rama himself, who in 2005 confronted and took over the leadership of the party from Fatos Nano, an act that remained an isolated case and did not become a culture within the party. Meanwhile, during his years in power, Edi Rama has displaced, removed or diminished quite a few figures.
The problem is not only this. The problem is that none of them rose to the level of confrontation. None of them committed a political act. None of them showed that they had weight even outside the leader's umbrella. And this is no coincidence. Some do not have that courage. They are not strong enough to face the one and the system that raised them. Others are caught up in interests, in their past, or in files that they perhaps no longer control themselves.
And above all, they are readable. Rama knows them well. He has built them, he has used them and he knows exactly the limits of each one. Therefore, there is no real rebellion. There are only silent retreats.
Returning to the "Hungarian", he, a former member of the system, comes out and challenges the country's strong leader, even one of the most authoritarian figures in EU countries.
In Albania, the "bored" ones make at most a status on "Facebook", usually discreet, delayed, or so cautious that it is not clear whether it is criticism or simply a way to appear to not fully agree.
Besides being a matter of personal courage, this is also a matter of climate. Because when power becomes long-lasting, when loyalty is rewarded more than dissent, then even those who could have a voice choose to remain silent. Or are forced to remain silent.
Today, there is talk, desire, and demand for the emergence of new figures for a different spirit, both in power and in the opposition. The media and society are ready to support them. But so far, no one has taken the step of truly confronting the system.
Therefore, even though it sounds like a joke, it is true: For the moment, in the Socialist Party, in Albania, the "Hungarian" is dead!
