Florenc Sinani, the headman of the village of Grykë in Peqin, has shared his emotions about the tragedy of the Kola family in Italy, where three members lost their lives after carbon monoxide poisoning. He spoke on the show "With an Open Heart" on News24, by moderator and author Evis Ahmeti.
"For us, it was a very good, regular family," said Sinani. "We learned the news yesterday morning. The son called us from Italy and told us that a tragedy had happened in the Kola family. We are very sorry."
The headman recalled the last meeting with the family: “We had met for the New Year. They were together with the mother, daughter-in-law and daughter. We had a coffee and talked about how they were doing with work. He said: 'We are fine, we are settled'. The daughter was at school. They spent the holidays abroad and then left for Italy”. Sinani emphasized the sacrifice of the mother of the family: “We are talking about a mother who has managed to provide a life for her children with great difficulty — she has two sons and a daughter.” He added that the villagers will work to bring the family's bodies back to their homeland as soon as possible.
"For us, it was a very good, regular family! We learned the news yesterday at 9 am. We were at work. My son picked me up from Italy and told me; a tragedy has happened in the Kola family. We feel very, very sorry for that family. The last meeting was for New Year's. He was with his mother, daughter-in-law, and daughter. We had a coffee with them. He spent New Year's here and then went to Italy. We talked about how things were going with work. He said; we are fine. We are settled. We are at work, the daughter is at school". That's it! Because I know that when she lost her father, it was almost 20 years ago. That mother has achieved those children with great difficulty. She has two sons and an elderly daughter. We will all contribute as villagers, so that the bodies are brought back to their homeland as soon as possible," he said.
