Former MP Ervin Salianji, invited to the Studio24 show, commented on the situation within the Democratic Party, harshly criticizing the recent protests organized by the opposition, including the latest protest on May 8.

Salianji stated that the DP protests are losing their effect and are demotivating citizens.

"Every protest they organize, saying that it aims to overthrow the technical government or to overthrow Rama, only overthrows it in their own minds. This only demotivates people. Either the protest is done with a specific purpose, to react against corruption and concrete problems, or it loses its meaning," he said.

According to the former MP, the recent protests are being used more as an instrument to maintain the status quo within the DP than to challenge the government.

"The protest that has as its political goal the removal of Rama and the technical government is diminishing more and more. That protest is against me. It is resistance to not change. It is a protest against all the people who think that Sali Berisha should not be president," declared Salianji.

He added that the way the protests are currently being organized is serving the government more than the opposition.

"That is the greatest service done to the government. It kills the nerve of protest and hope," said the former MP.

Finally, Salianji stated that citizens would react to the government themselves if the current leadership of the DP were to withdraw from the public scene for a period of time.

"If the DP leadership did not appear at all and remained on television for two months, the people would come out against the government themselves. The people understand and get the message," he concluded.
