The death of iconic designer Valentino (Valentino Clemente Ludovico Garavani), who passed away on January 19 at the age of 93, leaves behind an irreplaceable void in the world of high fashion, but also an incredible fortune estimated to exceed one billion dollars.
The man who identified his name with elegance, dressing legends such as Jacqueline Kennedy and Sophia Loren, built a financial colossus during his career, which was consolidated in 1998 with the sale of his brand to the Agnelli family's HDP company for $300 million.
Valentino's portfolio includes iconic residences that reflect the aesthetic of the "Last Emperor", such as the historic villa on Appia Antica in Rome - decorated with a rare portrait of him by Andy Warhol -, the Wideville tower near Paris and luxury villas in Gstaad, Switzerland. At the same time, the house has gone through significant business upheavals, culminating in its acquisition by Qatar's sovereign wealth fund, Mayhoola, in 2012, and the recent entry of French group Kering with a 30% stake in 2023. Today, Valentino continues its path with Alessandro Michele at the creative helm, recording an annual turnover of 1.3 billion euros.
