The story that was covered today on the show 'With an Open Heart' on News24 by moderator and author, Evis Ahmeti, is the story of a man, a father, a pillar of the family, who today finds himself in the most difficult battle of his life.
Klodian Kerçuku, 45 years old from Gramshi, father of three children, on November 10, 2025, while returning from work in Greece together with two of his compatriots, was involved in a tragic accident. A fatal collision with an olive tree. One of his friends lost his life on the spot. While Klodjani survived, but with serious consequences. For more than a month and a half he remained in a coma, in a hospital in Greece. Today he is no longer who he once was, he does not communicate, does not react and every day for his family is a battle between hope and pain. After a long journey of sacrifices and economic impossibilities to afford treatment abroad, the family decided to bring Klodiani to them, in Albania, to the people who love him and are waiting for him to return. But this battle cannot be won alone.
Today, his family is asking for everyone's help so that Klodian can have another chance at life, to return to his children, to be who he once was. Klodian's brother told the show that his brother is in serious health and needs help.
"I got a call from my people, some relatives. He was returning from work in Corinth. It was raining and the car had an accident, it was around 10:00 in the morning. There was hail that day and the car ended up crashing into an olive tree. The passenger died. The car belonged to a Greek owner, the brother had documents. They were not speeding. The person who died was 45 years old and the other person survived. My brother was in a coma for 1 and a half months. The other person only spent one night in the hospital. When I asked him what happened, he told me he didn't remember anything. We don't know anything about what happened, according to the authorities. The time he was in the state hospital in Greece, it was free. After it was mentioned, we were told that we should take him to a physiotherapist. We took him to a private one, taking on debts, to friends and acquaintances. He has started to improve because we are doing physiotherapy, but he still doesn't speak. The doctors said it would take some time," said his brother.
Meanwhile, amidst emotions and anxiety about the future, the 45-year-old's wife shared her experiences from the accident and her first meeting with her children after coming out of the coma.
"At first I hoped to find him alive, then it was horror in my eyes. The last time was the phone call at dinner. We had talked there. It was a bad time that day. It was very difficult, to see my husband lying there and wait for him to wake up. Terrible. I have three children, the eldest 17 and the youngest 7 years old. He experienced it worse. I remember when he came out of the coma. We were very emotional, we were touched. We said thank you that he came out alive. When he saw the children, tears and hugs. He is a little better. But he doesn't make money. He is not even for himself. The doctors are full of hope. I hope we can make it with God's help," she said.
