Twelve dazzling new works of art by artists from around the world have been installed in London for the annual Winter Lights Festival. The lights brought a glow to the grey and cold British capital during the winter. The artworks included giant balloons with lights, black holes, mirages and more.

This year's festival, which features four works of art never before seen in the UK, "explores the transformative qualities of art and light, combining the real with the surreal," organisers said. "We wanted to create something that is beautiful and to be admired, but is essentially a mirage and cannot be trusted. And that's an analogy for social media itself," said artist Zara Pasfield.

Artists from around the world displayed installations inspired by their diverse backgrounds. Bangladeshi artist Ruhul Abdin emphasized that it was a challenge to tell stories from previous generations.
“One of the biggest challenges for us was to tell stories from previous generations, especially our mothers and grandmothers who migrated from Bangladesh here. It was important to understand the hardships and struggles they went through to be here.”
The festival of lights will last until February 1 and is expected to attract a large number of visitors.
