Police Chief Skënder Hita was asked about the assassination attempt in Lezha during a media appearance.
During his speech, Hita emphasized that this morning, checks were carried out throughout the area. The RENEA Special Forces were also involved in carrying out the checks. He emphasized that they are still not on the trail of the perpetrator of the incident and that investigative actions are continuing.
"The police have made direct communication since the first moments. The investigations have continued this morning, we have carried out several checks with the RENEA special forces, but it has not yet been possible to capture the perpetrators," he said.
Full statement;
The State Police is an institution at the service of citizens and every action we take is based on guaranteeing order, public safety and law enforcement. For this reason, we consider transparency an essential element of our work, because only through it can mutual trust be built between citizens and the Police.
Today I want to share with you an important decision of the State Police, which is directly related to the way we communicate with the public.
This decision does not come by chance, but is the result of a serious reflection on the numerous reactions of citizens, who have expressed their concern about the negative impact it creates in society, the way in which news about criminal events is reported every day, and about the many news items that we provide from each region, in the daily summaries.
I have received and listened to these concerns with great seriousness and responsibility, I have consulted with specialists in the field, I have communicated with many of my counterparts in the Balkans and Europe, and it turns out that the way we act negatively affects society and the daily lives of citizens.
Based on the above, the State Police will implement a new form of communication, more responsible, more structured and in line with the best European models.
I want to emphasize clearly, this is not a retreat from transparency, on the contrary, it is a step forward towards higher quality and more professional transparency, because we believe that citizens do not just need more information, but accurate, verified and responsible information, for measured information that does not affect negative perception and the criminalization of society.
What specifically changes with the new form of communication?
First, all monthly and annual statistical data on crime and public safety will be fully accessible on the official website of the State Police.
Secondly, for dynamic events, the Police officers on the scene will provide the necessary information to the media and the public, in real time and accompanied by preliminary information from the Police spokesperson. This practice has already begun and will be further consolidated.
Thirdly, the heads of local Police directorates, with their staffs, will hold monthly conferences to make the work, results and challenges in each district transparent.
Fourth, for events with high public impact or important police operations, the State Police will provide timely and complete information through official channels.
Why are we making this change?
The overload of criminal news, often delivered in a fragmented or rushed manner, creates a sense of uncertainty that does not always reflect reality. Unconfirmed information harms not only investigations, but also citizens' trust in institutions.
The State Police is not only a crime chronicler, but it is in the field every day for prevention, for cooperation with the community, for meetings with security councils, as well as for education and awareness of citizens.
These are values that must be communicated as strongly as the fight against crime.
Honorable media representatives, honorable citizens,
This conference should not be seen simply as a periodic communication with the media, but as part of a new institutional standard, where public information will be more complete, more direct and closer to the real concerns of citizens. We are aware that the challenges facing order and security are numerous, but equally determined is our commitment to face them with seriousness and professionalism.
My goal is clear, to build communication that informs but does not alarm, that is transparent and accountable, that strengthens trust and not uncertainty.
The State Police remains completely transparent with citizens, but at the same time more accountable in the way it communicates.
Our goal is not simply to inform more, but to inform more directly, more accurately, and always in the interest of the safety of every citizen.
In this spirit of cooperation and transparency, I am open to questions on issues that have affected public opinion during the past month.
