The Democratic Party Parliamentary Group considers the decision of the High Judicial Council to refer the case of Special Judge Irena Gjoka to the High Inspector of Justice as irresponsible and unprecedented, at a time when she has been convicted in Greece for using a forged visa.
According to the opposition, the behavior of the Supreme Court of Kosovo raises strong questions about the independence and impartiality of this institution.
REACTION OF THE DP PARLIAMENTARY GROUP
"This irresponsible and unprecedented behavior of the Supreme Court of Justice, in violation of the Constitution and the organic laws that charge it with making decisions on cases of incompatibility and ineligibility of judges, raises strong questions about the independence and impartiality of the governing body of the judicial power. Referring to the ILD for competence is a clear attempt to drag this issue out even further, with very serious consequences for the judicial power, the rights of citizens and the public's trust in the justice system."
The Democratic Party Parliamentary Group calls on the High Inspector of Justice to implement the law and immediately request from the Supreme Court of Justice to declare the end of the mandate for the convicted judge.
At Friday's meeting, the High Judicial Council rejected a request for verification of the status of Special Court judge Irena Gjoka regarding her failure to declare a criminal conviction handed down by Greek justice in 2005. Based on the proposal of one of the members, the matter in question is expected to be referred for review to the ILD.
