The Belgium team will face an unexpected absence in its ranks today, as a player is not allowed to be activated by his club in the match against Spain that could ensure a presence in the semi-finals of the tournament.

It was the Belgian Federation itself that announced that defender Zeno Debast will not be available for today's match due to the request of his club, Sporting Lisbon. The club in question has submitted a medical report stating that the footballer is injured, although the doctors of the Belgian national team see things differently.

"Zeno Debast will not be available for the quarter-finals. His club, Sporting, has informed the player that he is medically unfit to play. This assessment differs from that of our medical team, as well as the medical and insurance bodies of FIFA," the Belgian Federation wrote.

Debast suffered a hip injury while playing for Sporting and started the training camp injured, and has not yet played a single minute at this World Cup. For now, the situation is completely frozen, but another meeting between the parties is expected to take place before the start of the match, to determine whether or not the Sporting Lisbon doctor's order will be respected.
