A photo has been released of a 41-year-old Albanian prisoner who escaped on Friday evening during his transfer from Nigrita prison to Serres General Hospital, in an operation that appears to have been carefully planned. Greek media report that his accomplices used vehicles resembling police cars to approach the escort and carry out the escape. According to new information, the transport vehicle was located at around 23:30 in the hospital courtyard, near the psychiatric wing. Inside were the 41-year-old Albanian and two members of the prison's external escort.

At that moment, two vehicles resembling police cars appeared. One of them is suspected to be a Nissan Navara, a model also used by Greek police units, and had a small headlight. According to reports, this made the escorts initially think that they were dealing with police officers. But the situation changed within seconds. The people who got out of the vehicles were carrying Kalashnikovs and, at gunpoint, neutralized the prisoner's companions. They then helped the 41-year-old to leave, while they also allegedly took the service weapon of a prison employee.

Who is the Albanian?
The fugitive is a 41-year-old Albanian citizen, who was arrested last year by Greek Organized Crime structures. He is suspected of being involved in an attempted murder in Thessaloniki, following an incident that occurred in a cafeteria. According to Greek authorities, his name is also linked to weapons and drug investigations. However, the 41-year-old's full identity has not been made public in reports so far.

After the escape, the Greek police have launched a large-scale operation to capture the Albanian and the armed men who helped him escape. Until the latest reports, they have not been located. Another important detail is that at the time of the escape, two other prisoners were in the same hospital, who had been brought for treatment with another escort.
