The Elbasan Prosecutor's Office, which is investigating the collapse of the Librazhd-Prrenjas axis, which blocked the southeast of the country for days, causing chaos in the movement of citizens, has asked the Albanian Road Authority to make available all procurement procedures for road maintenance.
According to a source close to the investigative group, the ARA is expected to submit the documents within a week, because the materials involved are voluminous.
"We are investigating the part related to the existing axis, specifically the road maintenance tender. So, we are looking at the way the tender procedure was developed and the terms of the contract signed between the Albanian Road Authority and the winning company," said a source close to the investigation group.
The investigation group also focused on the construction of temporary roads, which are used temporarily until the construction of the axis is completed.
The prosecution is also investigating the permit for the extraction of inert materials in Shkumbi and its implementation, as it has been determined that the river is being massively exploited in some areas.
Referring to Open Data data, it turns out that the maintenance tender was won by the company InfraKonsult of Redi Struga. From the first verifications it results that the company has not fulfilled its contractual obligations, being in violation of the law and as a result it is suspected that the collapse of the axis that blocked the southeast of the country has occurred.
The prosecution is investigating the criminal offenses of "Abuse of office", "Violation of equality in public tenders or auctions", "Destruction of the road", "Pollution of air, water or land".
The situation on the road segment has normalized, but the problem remains evident. For days, vehicles were unable to circulate on the road due to the landslide and the sinking of the bridge.
