The Special Court has declared the deputy and leader of the Mundësia Party, Agron Shehaj, innocent of the criminal offense of defamation, in the case filed following his statements against the leader of "Albania Becomes", Adriatik Lapaj.
According to the GJKKO decision, Shehaj was found not guilty of defamation, for public statements in which he accused Lapaj of receiving money from organized crime.
The court decided to find Shehaj guilty only of the criminal offense of insult, sentencing him to a fine of 300 thousand lek.
The decision emphasizes that the accusations do not meet the elements of the criminal offense of defamation, while they are considered an insult to the figure of Adriatik Lapaj.
It remains to be seen whether the Special Court Decision of Judge Erjon Çela will be appealed by the parties in the GJKKO appeal.
