Prime Minister Edi Rama has reacted for the first time in his podcast "Flasim" to the Constitutional Court's decision to uphold the suspension of Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, by decision of the GJKKO. Meanwhile, SPAK is also demanding her arrest.
Rama described the decision as a dangerous and unprecedented precedent in democratic countries, stating that the Constitutional Court “did not find the strength” to prevent, in his words, “the re-taking of the government hostage” through an unusual mechanism. He called the suspension of a member of the government in a preliminary hearing by the prosecutor and the court an unknown practice in the democratic world.
According to the Prime Minister, Albania is becoming "the first example of a global stupidity," while adding that the Constitutional Court, instead of issuing a clear decision, "drowned in a bucket of murky water," referring to justifications that he described as unclear and unjustified.
Rama stated that Belinda Balluku is not accused of corruption, not even by the prosecutor who requested her suspension, and that the measure was taken in a closed session, in the preparatory phase of a trial. According to him, the undoing of this practice of "new justice Made in Albania", which he considered still immature, is necessary to guarantee the independence of Parliament from the judiciary.
