Despite progress in dialogue, fundamental differences between Iran and the United States over their nuclear program remain deep, a senior Iranian official told Reuters. Diplomatic efforts have gained momentum after a visit to Tehran by Pakistan's army chief, Asim Munir, helped bring positions closer on several issues, raising hopes for an extension of the ceasefire and the resumption of peace talks between Tehran and Washington, the same source said.

However, the most sensitive issues remain unresolved. At the heart of the disagreements are the fate of highly enriched uranium and the duration of restrictions that should be imposed on Iran's nuclear program. On the other hand, a spokesman for the Pakistani Foreign Ministry announced that there is still no date set for a new round of talks, although topics related to the nuclear program remain the focus of discussions.

Meanwhile, Sky News reports that a new meeting between the parties could take place next week, possibly in Islamabad. Sources from the Donald Trump administration have expressed “optimism” about reaching an agreement, although there is still no decision on extending the current ceasefire, which is expected to expire in a few days. In parallel, General Asim Munir is expected to hold another round of meetings with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, to discuss the messages exchanged between the two countries and the next steps in the diplomatic process.
