The political leader of the Democratic Party for the diaspora in the May 11 elections, Jozefina Topalli, said in an interview for the "Open" show on News24 that the role of Albanians abroad is crucial in the political change aimed at by the opposition.

"The diaspora has an extraordinary potential to make political rotation in the country," said Topalli, emphasizing that if Albania had a different electoral system, the diaspora's votes would translate into about 25 parliamentary mandates.

She added that although the current system significantly limits this influence, the diaspora remains a key factor in some electoral districts, where the balances are tight and every vote carries great weight.

Topalli compared the situation to the case of Kosovo, where – according to her – the votes of the diaspora have often been decisive for the formation of the government: “The same applies to Albania. The diaspora is aware of this role.”
